A Nexium 40mg tablet is an effective combination tablet containing 14.6mg of the active ingredient in Nexium. This combination tablet should be taken as a single daily dose, preferably at the same time every day. It is important that you take it in the following dose schedules and intervals.
This medication is not suitable for children and adolescents (below 18 years of age).
This medicine contains ingredients that are intended for adult use only. Not suitable for use in children under 18 years of age.
Take this medicine by mouth with a full glass of water. Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water. Do not crush, chew or break it. The tablet should be swallowed whole with water. It can be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

It is primarily used to treat various gastrointestinal disorders, such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and esophagitis. Esomeprazole works by gastric irritation at the site of inflammation. It is thought to reduce the amount of acid produced by the stomach and acid in the stool. Esomeprazole is also used to prevent esophagitis and to treat esophageal cancer. Its effects can be seen through the lens of a blue haze in the early stages of esophageal cancer. Unlike other antibiotics, esomeprazole does not induce gastric acidity. The drug acts by inhibiting gastric acid secretion, thus preventing the enzyme gastric acid-related stomach emptying. Esomeprazole is also thought to have anti-inflammatory effects, thus reducing stomach irritation caused by the medication. Purpose: To report the results of a multicenter randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of Nexium control capsule to treat chronic heart failure. Patients with chronic heart failure (NYHA class II-IV) who were admitted to the hospital due to symptoms and/or signs of heart failure were randomized to treatment with a single capsule of 20 mg esomeprazole once daily for 6 weeks. Efficacy measures were defined based on the Global Long-Term Efficacy and Outcomes of Treatment score (GLOT; the composite measure of clinical, laboratory, and physical parameters) for NYHA class I and II to diagnose heart failure (NYHA class II-IV). At 6 weeks, patients were randomized to receive a single capsule of 20 mg esomeprazole once daily for 6 weeks (n = 869), or a placebo capsule (n = 662) for another 6 weeks. A total of 984 patients were enrolled, with 887 (2.3%) patients receiving esomeprazole capsule, and 463 (5.6%) receiving placebo (P = 0.02). Efficacy was assessed at the end of treatment and at 6 weeks. The incidence of discontinuation due to adverse events at 6 weeks for esomeprazole capsule and the incidence of adverse events at 6 weeks were significantly greater in the esomeprazole capsule group than in the placebo group (P = 0.001 and P < 0.001, respectively). The incidence of discontinuation due to adverse events at 6 weeks for esomeprazole capsule and the incidence of discontinuation due to adverse events at 6 weeks for the placebo group were significantly greater than those in the placebo group (P = 0.001 and P = 0.001, respectively). The incidence of adverse events at 6 weeks for esomeprazole capsule was significantly greater than that in the placebo group (P = 0.001). Efficacy improvement was observed with the single capsule of esomeprazole capsule, compared with the placebo capsule, as assessed by the GLOT, at 6 weeks (p < 0.001), 6 weeks (p < 0.001), and 9 weeks (p < 0.001). The incidence of discontinuation due to adverse events at 6 weeks for esomeprazole capsule and the incidence of adverse events at 6 weeks were significantly greater in the esomeprazole capsule group than in the placebo group (p < 0.001 and p < 0.001, respectively). The incidence of adverse events at 6 weeks for esomeprazole capsule and the incidence of adverse events at 6 weeks were significantly greater in the placebo group than in the esomeprazole capsule group (p < 0.001 and p < 0.001, respectively). Esomeprazole capsule has a good safety profile and has favorable tolerability.
